(Brooklyn, NY) We’re so proud, excited and happy! Serene Bacigalupi has opened a real, brick and mortar location for Leroy’s Place. Proud Momma and Kiss of the Wolf designer Lori Bacigalupi is on her way to share in this wonderful celebration.
Join us for the grand opening of Leroy’s Place!
Leroy’s Place is an interactive monster gallery, gift shop, and event space. Step into this fanciful world of friendly monsters through art installations, puppets, and 360˚ virtual reality technology. It’s an opportunity to meet the collaborators, tour this fanciful world, and have your picture taken with Leroy and friends.
Dreams have become reality in this new store. The Pee-Wee’s Playhouse-inspired courtyard can be rented for birthday parties and other small events. In addition to just plain fun, it’s a one stop shop for original monster art, t-shirts, jewelry, and gifts, previously available only online.
The Story of Leroy
Leroy was first imagined in 2007 when designer and illustrator, Serene Bacigalupi, debuted a collection of her Monster Makeover paintings. In this on-going series, Serene inserts her monsters and their friends into vintage paintings. The monsters soon began to invade t-shirts, jewelry and gifts until they became Leroy’s Place.
Leroy’s Place grew into an artist’s collective in 2015 with the addition of Jacques Duffourc, puppet designer, and Whitney Raynor, a fabric artist. Together, they brought Serene’s charming monsters to life through puppetry and film. As a collective, Leroy’s Place has created two short films, together with puppet shows, sculpture and installation art.
It’s FREE and we’ll have refreshments, live music and photo ops!
If you can’t make it to New York, you can still follow Leroy’s Place on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for updates on gallery shows and film festivals. The gifts, jewelry, and clothing continue to be for sale online at Etsy.
